Andalusia History

Andalusia monument

Andalusia boasts its share of famous visitors: from the Creek Indian tribes who first inhabited our lands to Spanish explorers Ponce de Leon and DeSoto, to President Andrew Jackson.

Our history is rich: Covington became a county in 1821, and so Andalusia played a vital role in both settling the Louisiana Purchase and rebuilding the South after the Civil War. From county commissioners who could neither read nor write to the multiple courthouses that have dotted the area, our past is as colorful as the promising future before us.
