Location and Transportation
The north Baldwin County area includes Bay Minette and numerous other unincorporated communities: Blacksher, Bromley, Carpenter's Station, Clear Springs, Crossroads, Douglasville, Dyas, Gateswood, Hall's Fork, Horseneck Fork, Hurricane, Latham, Little River, Lottie, Perdido, Pine Grove, Phillipsville, Rabun, Stapleton, Steelwood, Stockton, Tensaw, Vaughn and White House Fork.
Baldwin County is located in the southwest corner of Alabama, bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay; Bay Minette is the county seat. Monroe County lies to the north of Baldwin County; Mobile County is to the west while Escambia County, Florida lies 30 miles to the east, with Pensacola, Florida on the border.
North Baldwin County is in close proximity to many major cities, Mobile being its nearest neighbor at only 32 miles away. Montgomery is just 150 miles from north Baldwin County while New Orleans, Louisiana is only a bit farther at 172 miles. Birmingham, Alabama is a 237-mile trip and Atlanta, Georgia is 282 miles from the county, and 400 to 500 miles away is Tennessee.
There are a number of transportation options to venture in or out of north Baldwin County. Road travelers can journey over major highways running throughout the entirety of Baldwin County such as Interstates 10 and 65; U.S. Highways 31, 90 and 98; as well as State Routes 59, 104, 180 and 182. A Greyhound station in Mobile provides bus transportation that makes taking the scenic route cross-country enjoyable.
Hop on a plane and travel via air. A number of airports exist in Baldwin County to transport passengers to their destinations. Bay Minette Municipal Airport provides a plethora of services, facilities and amenities to its patrons. From fuel refills to a pilot lounge, it is a pleasant stop or spot to take off.
Mobile and Pensacola are the same distance from Bay Minette. Mobile Regional and Pensacola Airports make it easy to fly to locations such as Atlanta, Georgia; Charlotte, North Carolina; Memphis, Tennessee; Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston, Texas. American Eagle, ASA, Continental Express, Delta, Northwest Airlink and US Airways each transport travelers wherever they are looking to go. In 2007, the total number of passengers flying in and out of Mobile totaled 617,361. Other airports in the area include Fairhope Municipal Airport, Foley Municipal Airport, Pensacola Airport, and Jack Edwards Airport.
The Baldwin Rural Area Transportation System (BRATS) provides transportation for residents of the county. Many different types of routes bring people to work, medical appointments and other important engagements. This system is invaluable to people who do not have transportation at their disposal.
