The foundation of a good education is invaluable to shape a student’s future. A top-notch curriculum is extremely important, however it is also athletics and extra curricular activities that form well-rounded individuals.

The Baldwin County School System is well aware of this. Serving nearly 27,000 students, it is the fifth largest school system in the state, encompassing about 50 school campuses. It is also the largest employer in the county. Over 50 percent of the teachers hold master’s degrees. The staffs of these fine institutions are dedicated to providing an excellent education. Pride in education has deep roots in north Baldwin County, as it was the first location in the state to build a public school.

The Baldwin County School System has been the recipient of awards that show its commitment to deliver top-notch education to all students in the county. In 2007, the system was awarded the Magna Award for its successful efforts to improve technology in its schools. Only 15 school systems were granted this honor. In 2004, the Baldwin County School System received the National Civic Star Award, which only one school in the country receives each year at the national level. The American Association of School Administrators and Sodexho School Services present this award to schools that show remarkable involvement with organizations in the community to improve the educational experience. It is also a seven-time What Parents Want Award winning school system.

Clubs and student organizations abound throughout north Baldwin schools with dance, student council, 4-H Club, chess club, crochet club, drama, guitar club, yearbook, rodeo club, scholar's bowl, foreign language clubs and many more. Students can be active and show their competitive nature in a wide range of athletic activities such as bowling, basketball, soccer, softball, track and field, cheerleading, cross country, football, volleyball, baseball, golf and swimming.

The North Baldwin Center for Technology, located in Bay Minette, is a technical school serving Baldwin County High School, Daphne High School and Spanish Fort High School. Students here participate in technical classes that prepare them for future career choices in a technological field. Both high school credit and college credit can be earned.

Outside of the public institutions, numerous private schools exist within the county for students in grades kindergarten through 12th.

Higher Education Faulkner State Community College is a two-year community college whose main campus lies in Bay Minette with two extension campuses in Fairhope and Gulf Shores. The enrollment of these three locations equals about 4,000 students. Students can earn an Associate Degree in Science, Applied Science or Art. Coursework to earn a certificate is also available in a multitude of different fields. This community college is equipped with dormitories for added convenience to students. All courses are transferable to four-year institutions and small classes ensure more student teacher interaction.

Within the surrounding area several other colleges and universities provide quality programs. The University of South Alabama Baldwin County Campus is located in Fairhope. Bishop State Community College, Springhill College, the University of South Alabama and the University of Mobile are close by in Mobile. The University of West Florida and Pensacola Junior College are just about an hour’s drive from Bay Minette.
