For those pursuing higher education, seven major colleges or universities are within a short commute of Sylacauga. Auburn University and the University of Alabama-Birmingham campuses are within 50 miles. Central Alabama Community College maintains three campuses within 25 miles of the city.

Sylacauga has united citizens across the community and secured commitments of resources from government, nonprofit organizations, businesses, the faith-based community and private citizens to establish BRIDGES; an after school program in partnership with the local churches, schools, the healthcare community, and businesses that serve youth from across the city.
