Education

Sylacauga’s four public schools have a reputation for excellence. Knowledgeable and caring faculty members, an active school board and involved families work together to provide an environment conducive to academic learning and personal growth.

A well-rounded curriculum emphasizes both traditional and contemporary learning skills to prepare students for the future.

Several of the area schools have been designated “National Schools of Excellence” by the U.S. Department of Education, and teachers and administrators have won awards at the national and state levels for their commitment to academic excellence.

For those pursuing higher education, seven major colleges or universities are within a short commute of Sylacauga. Auburn University and the University of Alabama-Birmingham campuses are within 50 miles. Central Alabama Community College maintains three campuses within 25 miles of the city.

Sylacauga has been named one of America’s “100 Best Communities for Young People” by America’s Promise, for two years running. Sylacauga has united citizens across the community and secured commitments of resources from government, nonprofit organizations, businesses, the faith-based community and private citizens to establish BRIDGES; an after school program in partnership with the local churches, schools, the healthcare community, and businesses that serve youth from across the city.
