When choosing a community to live in, you want to know that the citizens of that community care not only for themselves but also for friends and neighbors they have yet to meet. Tuscaloosa is such a place. On any given day, you can find its citizens serving a hot, nourishing meal at one of the soup kitchens in our area. You might find a group collecting school supplies or nonperishable food items for those in need. Perhaps you are part of a rally at work in support of United Way and its 26 partner service agencies. In the event of a natural disaster, you will see the Tuscaloosa community join forces to repair the damage and help those affected. When you live in Tuscaloosa, you know your friends and neighbors are there to lend a hand…a hand up, not a hand out.

Many nonprofit service agencies serve the area and are supported by caring and generous citizens who know the importance of a strong social service network in the community. You might have benefited from the service of one of these agencies if you have a Boy Scout or Girl Scout in your family or if you have a family member who has received services through Hospice of West Alabama. There are countless situations where your life could be enriched by one of Tuscaloosa’s social service agencies.
