Education remains a significant standard of life in Bullhead City, offering two top-rate public school districts, a private Montessori school and two charter schools. More than 4,000 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade are served through the Bullhead City Elementary School District #15. The district was established in 1948 in the one-room “Little Red School House,” and is now comprised of seven schools – five elementary schools and two junior high schools. The school district continues to grow quickly, which shows by the construction of three of the seven schools in the last seven years. Breakfast and lunch programs and health, counseling and nutritional services are available to each student enrolled in the district, as are Title I, Special Education, Gifted and ELL programs.
Mohave High School, part of the Colorado River Union High School District, offers education to students from 9th through 12th grade and provides a variety of academic programs including the Renaissance Program, Gifted Program, Honors Classes, Child Find Program, On-Site Special Education and a Work Release Program.
Montessori School House, the longest running early childhood program and private elementary school in Bullhead City, recently moved to a new location at 945 Thumb Butte. The new move doubled the number of available classrooms, allowing the school to add programs for students up to the age of 12. Montessori School House boasts low student to teacher ratios of 1:10 in the lower elementary programs and 1:8 in the primary education programs. Extracurricular activities provided by the school include Spanish education, instrumental lessons and dance.
Two charter schools are also available in the area – the Accelerated Learning Center for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade and the Academy of Building Industries. The Academy, located in Fort Mohave, provides vocational trade courses for student from the ages of 14 through 21. Courses include carpentry, air conditioning and heating, computer-aided drafting, plumbing, welding and electrical.
