Fifteen minutes away in downtown Phoenix, sporting fans can enjoy major league baseball at Bank One Ballpark - a structure which is one of the wonders of the world. Downtown Phoenix also is home to professional mens and womens basketball, as well as the National Hockey League and Arena Football at America West Arena. The Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League also call the Valley home. Arizona State in nearby Tempe offers major collegiate sports in the Pac-10 Conference. At facilities just a short drive from North Phoenix, there also are annual professional mens and womens golf and tennis events and NASCAR and Indy car races. Every spring, the Valley is home to several major league baseball teams which choose to enjoy the areas great climate for their spring trainings. Situated in North Phoenix is Turf Paradise, a track offering horse racing almost year round. A few minutes away, dogs race at Phoenix Greyhound Park. Nearby Scottsdale is loaded with four-star resorts, art galleries and many attractions for visitors or residents.
You could go out for dinner in North Phoenix nightly for a month and never have the same type of cuisine twice. From Italian to French to Chinese to Japanese to American, the area offers a variety of restaurants to meet anyones palate - and wallet. Of course, restaurants that specialize in Southwestern cooking are quite prevalent. Thanks to Arizonas fantastic climate, many restaurants offer patio dining, making meals memorable affairs. With Arizona having such a transplanted population, Chicago-style delicatessens, taco stands, sushi bars and the like can be found throughout the area. For those on the go, North Phoenix is dotted with plenty of fast-food eateries.
