Phoenix and the North Phoenix area are no strangers to planned growth. In the last 30 years Phoenix has doubled its population, an effective annual growth rate of 2.5%. North Phoenix encompasses over 242-square miles, of which one half is still undeveloped.
Currently North Phoenix is experiencing one of the fastest job and housing growth rates in the nation and the greater Phoenix area.
Initially thought of as a bedroom community to feed other industrial or government employment centers, the North Phoenix area has worked hard to develop an employment base where housing developments are approved as employment opportunities develop. Significant employers such as Honeywell, Sumitomo-Sitix, USAA, Cox Communications, American Express, Petsmart and others have relocated here. Economic Development efforts are now closely linked with community needs and growth goals.
Extensive availability of localized service, retail and professional services exist and are growing in the area.
Two of the six growth areas identified in the Phoenix Strategic View of Growth are in North Phoenix in the North Black Canyon Corridor and Desert Ridge Planned Area Developments.
Deer Valley Airport is a feeder to the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, with general aviation hangars and support. Private and corporate planes are based there. The industrial area surrounding the airport is expanding with most of the necessary infrastructure already in place.
The area is still best known as a good place to start a business, and many small businesses are developing and expanding.
