The explosive growth of Peoria has fueled thriving economic sectors that offer vast opportunities for expansion and development. New commercial and retail developments continue to attract new businesses, while a stable commerce base ensures longevity. The Peoria Chamber of Commerce fosters that stability on a daily basis.
The southern gateway to Peoria is Park West—a 355,000-square-foot, open-air shopping, dining and entertainment destination. Anchored by the 16-screen Harkins Theatre, Park West is lined with more than 50 specialty retailers, nine sit-down restaurants and two beautifully landscaped park sites. Its location places it within approximately one mile of the Arizona Cardinals’ (NFL) new home at the University of Phoenix Stadium and the Jobing.com Arena, host of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes.
In the central portion of Peoria are new business-condo projects, huge retailing centers and “Class A” offices. Nearby you’ll find the Arrowhead Entertainment District, which has the highest concentration of restaurants in the United States.
The original townsite is being revitalized. New residential structures, improvements to building facades, more open space and redevelopment of existing sites will further reflect the prosperity of the community and make downtown Peoria a prime commercial location. Also planned are mixed-use projects near Osuna Park and City Hall, a pedestrian-friendly downtown, and a study for a commuter rail system corridor that transports people to and from downtown Phoenix. The new performing arts center, Theater Works, is bringing new crowds to “Old Towne” almost every night.
Peoria offers industrial parks with all the significant utilities and convenient road access. Peoria also has immediate railroad and highway access and is reasonably close to airfreight service.
In addition to commercial and service industry employers, Luke Air Force Base is another leading employer in the west and northwest portions of the Metro-Phoenix/Peoria region. Home to more than 200 assigned F-16s, Luke Air Force Base is noted as the world’s largest and only active duty F-16 training base. Approximately 7,500 military service personnel and 15,000 family members make up the base’s current population. Additionally, about 80,000 retired military members have chosen to reside in the greater Phoenix area.
Since Peoria is more than 175 square miles, with nearly half of the city comprised of undeveloped land, progress and prosperity are evident wherever you look. After recently adding 4.5 million square feet of office space, more than 400,000 square feet of commercial space is being developed. Future employment centers along the Loop 303 corridor will have the capacity to create 120,000 jobs. If there ever was a perfect city in which to locate a business—Peoria, Arizona, is number one.
