Tourism in Peoria Arizona

Surrounded by the scenic landscape of the Sonoran Desert, the greater Peoria area is recognized for its abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities and diverse attractions.

Challenger Space Center (one of the five biggest in all the U.S.) provides an exciting space-based learning environment. School children, families, senior citizens, corporate teams and others fly simulated space flight missions where they become flight crews, mission controllers and scientists. The center also acts as a community resource center with stargazing, an indoor planetarium, space camps, lectures, telescope classes, space storytelling and more. This major destination brings countless visitors to Peoria each year.

Recreation enthusiasts also flock to Peoria. Known as the “Gateway to Lake Pleasant,” the lake is one of the most scenic water recreation areas in Arizona. Lake Pleasant Regional Park offers 23,662 acres of ideal boating and camping opportunities. With 10,000 acres of crystal-clear water, visitors can enjoy water skiing, jet skiing, sailing or fishing. Lake Pleasant also offers more than 140 developed sites for RV and tent camping. Hiking trails, wildlife viewing, picnic areas and breathtaking views complete the Lake Pleasant experience. And don’t forget to bring cameras to shoot the wildlife, desert plants and outstanding vistas.

Turf Soaring School

Turf Soaring School introduces thousands of people annually to the unique adventure of glider flight. A sail plane is towed up into the sky and then released. From there, a certified instructor demonstrates basic flying techniques, then gives the rider the opportunity to take the controls and experience the freedom of flight. Lessons are also offered to obtain a private glider pilot’s license. This could be the highlight of your Arizona visit.
