With a glorious natural environment and 26 community parks in Peoria, there is no excuse to stay indoors.

The Peoria Parks Department maintains 26 community parks, three city pools, a community center, a women’s club, and the 142-acre Peoria Sports Complex. The 23,662-acre Lake Pleasant Park is overseen by Maricopa County. The City of Peoria has approximately 3.5 miles of trail along the west bank of New River (a normally dry river bed) between Northern Avenue and Bell Road. Funded through several grant programs, construction of the New River Trail will continue to grow.

The Rio Vista Recreation Center was designed to be a versatile, family-friendly facility. Its numerous amenities and programs are intended to engage residents and promote healthy lifestyles. It offers the first public gymnasium, the first indoor racquetball courts, and the first climbing wall and so much more. The Rio Visto Recreation Center also offers state-of-the-art fitness equipment, fitness and dance classes, circuit training, banquet and meeting rooms and more!

Rio Vista Recreation Center

The Rio Vista Recreation Center is unique. Its beauty is evident both inside and out. With commanding views of the lake and surrounding park, combined with natural interior finishes, the Rio Vista Recreation Center will be a point of pride for generations of Peoria residents.

Peoria’s Recreation Department is renowned for its dedication in creating and maintaining top quality programs for residents. Offerings include many sports leagues for children through adults. There are also adventure camps, winter break programs, before and after school programs, and a Little Learners Preschool. Senior programs include education classes, dancing, ceramics, scrapbooking, piano, planned trips, and a variety of health and wellness programs.

Peoria also has an urban fishing lake that is seasonally stocked with trout or catfish, the best skateboard park in the nation, and a history museum.

The city also provides one of the best Adaptive Recreation programs in the United States. The programs are designed to provide a continuum of leisure opportunities and related services to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
