Rim Country is known for its progressive business environment. The regions tourism and vacation industries are strong and growing. Many people migrate to Rim Countrys cooler climate, typically 10-15 degrees less than Phoenix during the summer months, for a reprieve from the hot desert temperatures. Likewise, in the winter, the Rim Country attracts visitors who enjoy the mild winter wonderlands that exhibit several measurable snowfalls each season.
The retail sector continues to be vibrant, and an emphasis on manufacturing and service firms stimulates the local economy. Large, long-term care facilities indicate a robust retirement business. All industries remain sensitive to the unique quality of life experiences in this area.
The major employers in the area are the Payson United School District, the Tonto Apache Tribes Mazatzal Casino, the Payson Regional Medical Center and the Town of Payson. In recent years, several manufacturing operations have located in Rim Country, including ILSC (a division of Pulau Electronic Corp.), Precision Intricast (precision orthotics device manufacturer) and Daryls Precision (precision machine work). Other significant employers include Gollipops (lollipop producer) and the Payson Candle Factory.
In addition, home building, many cottage industries and a growing fine arts community are a strong part of the economy.
There are two industrial parks in the Payson area; one is just west of the junction of state Route 87 and state Route 260; the other is adjacent to the Payson Municipal Airport.
