Show Low Historical Society

The White Mountains region is home to a wide assortment of interesting and engaging attractions, with many located near the Show Low community. Several local and regional sites, surrounded by the awe-inspiring scenery of the area, provide for a full day of fun.

The Show Low Historical Society Museum is a 10-room building highlighting the community’s early history. The museum is equipped with a re-created kitchen, authentic tools from an original blacksmith shop, the McNary’s barbershop chair and many more exhibits and artifacts from the area’s rich heritage.

Casa Malpais Ruins

The Mogollon Rim, a geological fault line that extends through central Arizona for approximately 200 miles, runs along the southern border of Show Low, offering a gorgeous view over and below the Rim. The Rim rises nearly 8,000 feet and is layered with beautiful limestone, sandstone, shale and granite. Many people travel along the Rim, camping near the cliffs and taking in the magnificent vantage point overlooking central Arizona.

Fascinating archaeological ruins are located in the region and can be reached within one hour. The Casa Malpais Ruins, a 17-acre site occupied for nearly 200 years until around 1400 A.D. the Casa Malpais Ruins feature the Great Kiva, a catacomb burial area, petroglyphs, shrines positioned astronomically and more.

Apache Cultural Center

In one hours drive from Show Low sits Fort Apache, a site originally created as a military post in 1870. The fort served as a site for soldiers in search of famous Geronimo and Cochise-led Apache bands. The 288-acre fort encompasses 20 buildings, featuring sites of prehistoric ruins, petroglyphs, the old military cemetery, a reconstructed Apache village, the Apache Cultural Center and a museum.
