The recreational possibilities in Sierra Vista are virtually endless, especially given the city’s natural environment and glorious weather.
Veterans’ Memorial Park, at the heart of the city, is a venue for numerous events all year round, and is a popular meeting place for residents, who can take advantage of the picnic areas, play equipment, volley courts and ramadas. At the edge of the park is the multimillion dollar indoor aquatic center, The Cove, which features a beach-style entry pool with a variable wave machine, two water slides, a warm water pool, sunning decks, kids’ lagoon, a diving pool and an eight-lane competition pool.
Newly opened in 2008 was the Sierra Vista-Kiwanis skate and bike court, also located at Veterans’ Memorial Park. The court includes a skate plaza, carving berm, skate bowl, lighting, seating and landscaping.
The City of Sierra Vista also runs two community centers, including the Ethel Berger Center where there are numerous senior activities, as well as events and classes for all ages. The nearby Oscar Yrun Community Center also has space for events, classes and local groups and organizations and is home to the Sierra Vista Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Sierra Vista also boasts a 31,000-square-foot library that, with its thousands of books and free Internet service, is well equipped to meet the community’s informational needs. The facility also includes the popular Café Sierra, which opened its doors in early 2008.
Other recreational facilities include two golf courses — one private and one open to the public — public and private tennis courts, a firearms range, ballparks, neighborhood parks and several sports clubs.
