The recreational possibilities in Sierra Vista are virtually endless, especially given the city’s natural environment and glorious weather.
Veterans’ Memorial Park, at the heart of the city, is a venue for numerous events all-year-round, and is a popular meeting place for residents, who can take advantage of the picnic areas, play equipment, volley courts and ramadas. At the edge of the park is the multi-million dollar, indoor aquatic center, The Cove, which features a beach-style entry pool with a variable wave machine, two water slides, a warm water pool, sunning decks, kids’ lagoon, a diving pool and an eight-lane competition pool.
The City of Sierra Vista also runs two community centers, which includes the Ethel Berger Center where there are numerous senior activities, as well as events and classes for all ages. The nearby Oscar Yrun Community Center also has space for events, classes and local groups and organizations, and is home to the Sierra Vista Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Sierra Vista also boasts a 31,000 square foot library, which, with its thousands of books and free Internet service, is well equipped to meet the community’s information needs.
Other recreational facilities include two golf courses – one private and one open to the public – public and private tennis courts, a firearms range, ballparks and neighborhood parks and several sports clubs.
As Sierra Vista continues to grow, the city is planning further infrastructure improvements, which will include the expansion of the multi-use path system. A new city park, in the West End, is also planned for construction in 2008, a skate park was due to be built in 2007 and plans are underway for a state-of-the-art band shell at Veterans’ Memorial Park.
