As the economic hub of southeastern Arizona, Sierra Vista is continuing to attract a growing number of business services and industry leaders. The city is home to Fort Huachuca, a major military intelligence and communications center, which is the region’s largest employer. Often described as the “economic engine” of Cochise County, the fort has long been responsible for driving Sierra Vista’s economy.
Steady growth, however, is bringing with it a wealth of other employment opportunities for businesses and residents alike. The fastest growing industry in Cochise County in 2007 was manufacturing, which added 75 jobs for an annual job growth rate of 8.8 percent. This was followed by professional and business services, which added 200 jobs (4.2 percent). Other areas of growth included trade, transportation, utilities, education, health, leisure and hospitality, and state and local government.

The City of Sierra Vista issued 64 commercial construction permits in 2006 and 2007, with a value of $104 million, and the ongoing effort to revitalize the West End district is attracting a variety of new businesses and office complexes to the area.
With more than 700 members, the Greater Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerce is at the heart of the region’s business services, offering extensive networking opportunities, organizing events that showcase our members, encouraging residents to “shop local” and advocating for the business community.
