Business in Sierra Vista
As the economic hub of Southeast Arizona, Sierra Vista is continuing to attract a growing number of business services and industry leaders.
The city is home to Fort Huachuca, a major military intelligence and communications center, which is the region’s largest employer. Often described as the “economic engine” of Cochise County, the fort has long been responsible for driving Sierra Vista’s economy. Steady growth, however, is bringing with it a wealth of other employment opportunities for businesses and residents alike.
In 2006, the fastest growing industry was professional and business services, which grew by 375 jobs, followed by mining and construction, which saw an increase of 150 jobs. Trade, transportation, utilities, and leisure and hospitality are also areas experiencing growth in Sierra Vista, contributing to a healthy local economy.
The City of Sierra Vista issued 44 commercial permits, with a value of $61.3 million in 2006, and the ongoing effort to revitalize the West End district is attracting a variety of new businesses and office complexes to the area.
With more than 750 members, the Greater Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerce is at the heart of the region’s business services, offering extensive networking opportunities, organizing events, which showcase our members, encouraging residents to “shop local” and advocating for the business community.
