Board of Directors The Chambers Board of Directors consists of 25 volunteer business & community leaders. The Chambers Board sets policy for the Chamber throughout the area as well as establishing strategic objectives for the Chamber on a yearly basis. Gregory R. Angle Greg Angle is Chief Executive Officer of Carondelet St. Marys Hospital and Senior Vice President for Carondelet Health Network. St. Marys Hospital celebrated its 120th anniversary in the year 2000 and is the longest operating hospital in Arizona. St. Marys Hospital is part of the Carondelet Health Network, a non-profit organization sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, providing diagnostic and treatment services in inpatient, outpatient and home care settings. Previously, Angle was Administrator of Seton Medical Center, a 505-bed regional hospital in Austin, Texas. He is a fourth generation Arizonan, born in Phoenix and an undergraduate of the University of Arizona with a Masters in Healthcare Administration and more than 17 years of experience in healthcare and hospital administration, both in investor-owned and not-for-profit organizations. He is a Board member of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Arizona Hospital & Healthcare Association and American College of Healthcare Executives. Greg and Nancy have been married 17 years and have three children, Zachary, age 13, Matthew, age 11, and Alexandria, age 7. Raymond C. Bargull As Chief Financial Officer of this Tucson based general contractor, Raymond C. Bargull is responsible for the organizations overall financial plans and policies. He serves on the firms Board of Directors. Bargull was previously Senior Vice President and Vice President Controller for the Sundt Companies. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of CPAs and the Employer Stock Ownership Plan National Association. Bargull is a member and past President of the Construction Financial Management Association, Sonoran Chapter, and serves as a trustee and member of the Finance Council of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Fred T. Boice Fred T. Boice currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of Southern Arizona, Tucson Healthcare Council, Caseworks Furniture Company, and on the advisory boards of the Arizona Health Sciences Center and Arizona Cancer Center. He is the Past President of Junior Achievement of Tucson, Arizona Cattlegrowers Association, Tucson Airport Authority, Tucson 30, Tucson Medical Center and The University of Arizona Foundation. Debra Chandler Steve Christy Joseph P. Coyle Joseph P. Coyle is the Vice President of Human Resources, Communications & Security for Missile Systems in Tucson, Arizona where he is responsible for the disciplines of labor relations, compensation, recruiting, public affairs, governmental & community relations, internal & external communications, and security and fire prevention. Coyle was named to this position in February 1998, after the merger of Raytheon Company and Hughes Aircraft Company. Previously, he had been Director of Human Resources and Communications for Hughes Missile Systems Company and the Weapons Systems Segment of Hughes Aircraft Company since 1996. Prior to joining Hughes, Mr. Coyle was with Loral Corporation (formerly Ford Aerospace) holding numerous positions including Vice President, Administration & Operations Support at Lorals Space & Range Systems. Cathy Davis Cathy G. Davis is President & CEO of Tucson Newspapers, the agency for the Arizona Daily Star and Tucson Citizen. Davis career spans over 25 years in the newspaper business. Ms. Davis joined Tucson Newspapers in 2000 after eight years at The Arizona Republic, where she was Executive Vice President. Prior to that, Davis worked at newspapers in New York, Tennessee, Minnesota and Iowa. Davis serves on boards of the American Press Institute and the Executive Committee of Newspapers First. In Phoenix, her community activities included the Phoenix Sun Charities, LPGA Good Samaritan Board, Arizona Foundation for Women, and Greater Phoenix Economic Council. In Tucson she serves on Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Child and Family Resources, DM 50 and Greater Tucson Economic Council boards. Davis graduated from the University of Northern Iowa earning a degree in Marketing. Katie Dusenberry Katie Dusenberry is Executive Vice President/Treasurer of Horizon Moving Systems, an agent for United Van Lines with facilities in six Arizona cities: Tucson; Phoenix; Yuma; Flagstaff; Sedona; and, Sierra Vista. Founded in 1924 in Tucson by her husband Bruces father, C.R. Dusenberry, the company now includes the third generation, their son, Bruce. Katie currently serves on many Boards: Vice Chairman of the Arizona Department of Transportation Board; University Medical Center; and, Chairman of the Pima Council on Aging. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Tucson, Tucson Airport Authority and Southern Arizona Leadership Council. Robert A. (Bob) Elliott
Bob Elliott is President and Owner of Robert A. Elliott, Inc., an accounting, tax and management advisory services firm. He also broadcasts for the NBA and NCAA on radio and TV, currently with Fox Sports Arizona. Mr. Elliott is the past President of the University of Arizona Alumni Association and the 1997 Tucson Father of the Year. Elliott is a Board member with the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Southern Arizona Community Bank, Tucson Airport Authority, Tucson Urban League, YMCA, Tucson Medical Center Health Enterprises, Tucson Medical Center Foundation and the Greater Tucson Economic Council. Mr. Elliott is a member of the Tucson 30, Tucson Black Chamber of Commerce, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and has a life membership with the NAACP. Elliott is a Basketball Athletic and Academic All American as well as a member of the Verizon/GTE Academic All America Hall of Fame. George Favela Area Manager/Policy and Law, Qwest Communications International George Favela is the area manager for Qwest (formerly U S WEST) in Tucson and Southern Arizona. He is responsible for public policy concerns including regulatory matters, media relations, constituency relations and public relations. George is also responsible for the Qwest Foundations philanthropic giving. He has been with Qwest for 29 years, all in Southern Arizona. Favela is active in the community and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and is senior vice president of the US WEST Pioneers, Santa Catalina Council. He has also served on the boards of CPLC, The Tucson Boys Chorus, The Arizona Childrens Home, Goodwill Industries and the Greater Tucson United Way. Mr. Favela was born and raised in Nogales, AZ, is married and he and his wife Jean have one son in college. Larry G. Finuf Larry Finuf is the President of Wells Fargo community banking in Tucson. A banker for more than 20 years, Finuf has spent his entire career in Tucson. He joined First Interstate Bank in 1978 and served in various positions, including market area manager for Tucson. He joined Norwest Bank in 1997 as Senior Vice President overseeing all Tucson locations. In 1998, when Wells Fargo and Norwest merged, Finuf became Community Banking President for Tucson. Finuf is a graduate of the University of Washington Pacific Coast Banking School and the Arizona Executive Development Program at the Karl Eller School of Management. He serves on the executive board of Junior Achievement, the United Way Finance Committee and the Tucson Sunrise Rotary Club. Steven J. Glaser Steven Glaser is Senior Vice President of Tucson Electric Power and chief operating officer for TEPs transmission and distribution unit. Joining TEP as a senior attorney in 1990, Glaser has served as vice president for the departments of marketing and sales, wholesale and retail pricing, energy services and rates and regulatory support. He was Arizona Assistant Attorney General before serving as a staff attorney for the Arizona Corporation Commission from 1985 to 1990. A member of the Arizona and Illinois state bar associations, Glaser enjoys coaching youth sports. Richard F. Imwalle Mr. Imwalle is responsible for all University related fundraising, approximately $95 million per year, as well as for managing assets of $276 million for the benefit of the University. Imwalle joined the UA family in 1978 as the Universitys first Director of Development. In 1980 he was appointed as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the UA Foundation, a non-profit corporation governed by an independent board of directors. He was elected President of the University of Arizona Foundation in 1991. A few of his many professional and civic activities, past and present, include Board of Directors, Vice Chair and current Chair of the Board, Bank of Tucson; Member, Board of Directors, Sun Community Bancorp; Member, Board of Directors and current Chair, Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau; Member, Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges; and, National Board of Advisors, UA College of Business. John D. Low John D. Low is the General Manager of the ASARCO Mission Complex. This includes the Mission Complex and Silver Bell mining operations and encompasses five open pit mines, an underground mine, two concentrators and a modern solvent-extraction electrowinning facility. Low began his 32-year career with ASARCO at the Mission Complex and, subsequently, worked at several locations around the country before returning to Mission in 1989. He also served in the US Army from 1969 until 1971. Christina A. Palacios Chris Palacios oversees Southwest Gass Southern Arizona Division. She began her career with Southwest in 1984, as the Human Resources manager in the companys Phoenix division. Since then she has held positions in Phoenix and Las Vegas, Nevada, and has been in Tucson since 1997. She holds a bachelors degree in marketing and a masters degree in business administration, both from the University of Utah. She is a board member of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Greater Tucson Economic Council, Southern Arizona Leadership Council, and United Way of Greater Tucson. Palacios has served on the Arizona School Facilities Board, and currently serves on the Governors Council on Workforce Development. In 1999 she was appointed to the Arizona Board of Regents. She also is a member of the Pacific Coast Gas Association, Tucson Unified School Districts "Fourth R" advisory board, the DM-50, and the Tucson Airport Authority. Barbara J. Peck, APR Barbara Peck has worked in the field of public relations in Tucson for 20 years and is currently one of the owners and founders of LP&G, a marketing, advertising and public relations agency. Ms. Peck holds the APR accreditation of the Public Relations Society of America and is a member of the national Counselors Academy and a member and past Board member of the Societys local chapter. Peck has lived in Tucson for 24 years and is a graduate of the University of Arizona. She currently serves on the DM50, the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Volunteer Center of Tucson Board of Directors, the Tucson Ad Federation Board and the Vestry for St. Philips in the Hills Episcopal Church. Ms. Peck was chosen as the Chamber of Commerce 2000 Woman of the Year. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Tucson. Tim Prouty Tim Prouty is President & CEO of CB Richard Ellis - Tucson, the companys Partner office in Southern Arizona. Prouty joined CB Richard Ellis in May of 2000 after successfully managing brokerage operations for 16 years. He is responsible for managing the companys joint venture in Tucson, Arizona. He coordinates all the activities for the office, including operations, new business development, client relations, recruiting, training and brokerage services. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Tucson Economic Council, the Pima County Real Estate Research Council and the Tucson Conquistadores and is a member of the Tucson Airport Authority. Ronald G. Russell Ron Russell is a Senior Manager at IBM Tucson. He has held management positions in New York and Tucson, both Manufacturing and Product Development areas. Russell is active in the Tucson community and serves on the Board of Directors for Child and Family Resources, Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona. He was past Chair and serves on the Policy Board for the Joint Arizona Consortium-Manufacturing and Engineering Education for Tomorrow. Christopher H. Sheafe A Tucson resident since 1976, Mr. Sheafe was part owner of one of Arizonas largest home building companies, Estes Homes, until it was sold in 1998. The C. Sheafe Company was formed in 1998 and concentrates in developing real estate projects with the objective of building secure high yield investment income. Mr. Sheafe is active in the community, currently serving as Chairman of the CAC Committee for Rio Nuevo, a major downtown redevelopment district within the City of Tucson. Mr. Sheafe also sits on a number of community and public service association boards. Gretchen Shine Gretchen Shine is Vice President and General Manager for Cox Communications of Tucson. Ms.Shine was Vice President and General Manager in Roanoke from mid 1993 mid 1998, and has been with Cox for 15 years. She also worked for five years in Atlanta at Cox Corporate Headquarters as Director - Field Marketing, traveling to each of 30 cable systems and assisting in the design of marketing, image and public relations programs. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Ms. Shine contributes her time and talents to organizations including the Arizona Cable Television Association and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Wayne D. Silberschlag Wayne D. Silberschlag is the President of Burlini/Silberschlag, Ltd. which he co-founded in 1977. Burlini/Silberschlag is an architectural and planning firm with a diversified project list including commercial, retail, institutional, industrial, financial and governmental facilities. In addition to his time devoted to the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Silberschlag has been a member of the American Institute of Architects since 1977 and has held various offices on the local and state level. These include President of the Southern Arizona Chapter in 1992 and of AIA Arizona in 1997. Silberschlag is currently a director of the AIA Western Mountain Region and will serve on the national AIA Board through 2002. Silberschlag is a 1972 graduate of the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and is a licensed architect in Arizona, California, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Arkansas. Silberschlag has also been a member of the Tucson Conquistadores since 1984 and served as chairman of the Tucson Open in1993. Rod Siler Resort & Spa Steven D. Touche Steven D. Touche is President of Lovitt & Touche, Inc., Arizonas largest independent insurance brokerage. Mr. Touche is also President of Mountain States Insurance Services, Inc., and sits on the Boards of Directors for Financial Services Group, Inc. and Lovitt & Touche Nevada. Mr. Touches professional accomplishments include lifetime membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable. His business affiliations include the Greater Tucson Association of Life Underwriters and affiliation with the Self-Insurance Institute of America. He is a senior member of the St. Marys Hospital Centurions, the Tucson Airport Authority and serves on the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. William G. Valenzuela Drywall & Sunbelt Coatings William G. Valenzuela formed his own drywall company in 1979 and acquired Sunbelt Coatings in 1997. He is Chairman-elect for the Tucson Airport Authority and Past Chairman of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of Habitat for Humanity, Southern Arizona Home Builders Association, Pascua Yaqui Indian Apprenticeship Committee, U of A Hospital Heart Association, Compass Bank Board and Southern Arizona Minutemen. He currently serves as Ambassador to the Army Reserve for the State of Arizona and Acting State Chairman for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves under the Secretary of Defense. Rick Zimmerman Rick Zimmerman, born in Wichita, KS, is the Vice President Western Region, of Bombardier Aviation Services/Bombardier Completion Center. Mr. Zimmerman joined Learjet in 1973 as an Interior Installer, in Wichita, KS. He transferred to the Tucson facility three years later as an Interior Completion Supervisor/Trainer. During his career at Learjet he has held numerous supervisory positions, ranging from Paint/Interior Supervisor and Aircraft Maintenance Manager to Director of Tucson and Denver Service Centers. The recent growth of the Tucson facility would not have been possible without the drive and dedication of Mr. Zimmerman. Bombardier Aerospace, a unit of Bombardier, Inc., is the leading business, regional and amphibious aircraft manufacturer. With full design and production capabilities in three countries, it offers the most comprehensive families of turboprop and regional jet aircraft and the widest range of business jets. It also provides the Flexjet fractional business aircraft ownership program, technical services, aircraft maintenance and pilot training for business, regional airline and military customers. Board of Advisors The Board of Advisors was started in 2001 as a resource for the leadership of the Chamber. The Board of Advisors allows the Board of Directors to gather input from former Directors and community leaders. Brian P. Boylan Brian P. Boylan is Senior Vice President of ASARCO Incorporated, responsible for legal affairs, human resources and corporate communications. Boylan joined ASARCO in 1988 as employee relations counsel, was promoted to director of employee relations in 1997 was named Ray unit operations manager. He was named vice president of human resources after Grupo Mexico purchased ASARCO and was named to his current post early this year. Boyland has a bachelors degree in business administration from Pace University in New York City and a juris doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School. Walter Burg Walter Burg is the President/CEO of the Tucson Airport Authority and has held this position since 1979. The Authority is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Tucson International Airport and Ryan Airfield. Burg has been involved in the aviation industry for 35 years and has served on many local, state and national boards. He was Chairman of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce in 1999 and is a graduate of the University of Arizona, with a degree in business administration. Luis Chavez Ginny Clements Ginny Clements has overseen the company business since 1995. Golden Eagle is a wholesaler of Anheuser-Busch exclusively. The company has five branches in Casa Grande, Buckeye, Flagstaff, Holbrook and Globe, with the head office in Tucson. In 2000, Working Woman Magazine named Golden Eagle as #129 top women owned business out of 500 nationwide. Mrs. Clements is also a Board member of the National Beer Wholesalers Association and the first woman elected to serve on their Management Committee. She is a Board member of the Steele Memorial Childrens Research Center, the Arizona Cancer Center, Catholic Foundation, National Vice President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and is on the Advisory Board of Angel Charity for Children. Jim Click, Jr. Jim Click is President of Jim Click Automotive Team, which is ranked #23 in Wards Top 100 Megadealer in a partnership with Tuttle Click Automotive, Irvine, CA. In addition, in 1999 Mr. Click was awarded the Presidents Award in a ceremony at the White House for exceptional contributions to public awareness of the empowerment and employment potential of people with disabilities. Since 1971 Mr. Click has been active in the Tucson community, lending his efforts to Tucson agencies including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson, Habitat for Humanity, Tucson Conquistadors and Fund Chair for the USS Tucson Commissioning. He graduated from Yale University with a BA in English Literature. Mr. Hard served three years in the US Navy. Hard is Executive Officer, Bank One, Arizona, Southern Arizona (formerly Valley National Bank). He served as the Senior Vice President and Regional Manager of Bank Ones North Central Region before being assigned to the Executive Officer position in December 1992. His civic activities include membership on the Board of Directors of DM50, University of Arizona Foundation, Amerind Foundation, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and the Southwestern Foundation for Education and Historic Preservation. Julie Hengemuehler Julie Hengemuehler, Director of both Afni Tucson centers, has lived in the Tucson area for over eight years. With over 1,000 employees in the Northeast and Southwest Afni centers, Hengemuehler sees much opportunity for the growth of Afni as an employer with the potential addition of over 200 more employees. Hengemuehler has over 15 years of experience in the call center industry, with 3-1/2 of those being at Afni. She earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and pursued graduate work in Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Prior to relocating to Tucson, Hengemuehler was a professional basketball player in Switzerland, and also worked in Omaha, Nebraska. Robert Jensen Dr. Robert D. Jensen has served as a chief executive officer in higher education since 1978. His leadership at four community colleges in California and Arizona encompasses a broad range of expertise and experience in administration/management curriculum, instruction, planning, institutional research, professional development and community outreach. As Chancellor of Pima Community College, Jensen currently serves on the Boards of Directors for the Tucson Airport Authority, the Greater Tucson Economic Council, the United Way and the Arizona Town Hall. He was appointed to the Governors Task Force on Higher Education and is serving a term on the national board of the American Association of Community Colleges. Richard Krivel Mark R. Mistler Mark Mistler is President of Compass Bank in Southern Arizona. With more than 15 years of banking experience in Tucson, Mr. Mistler oversees all bank operations for Compass Bank. Mistler previously held various positions with Bank One, Arizona, including Manager of Corporate Banking in Tucson. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Tucson Economic Council (GTEC) and is also a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council. In addition, Mistler serves on the National Board of Advisors for the College of Business and Public Administration at the University of Arizona. Richard Myers Rick Myers is General Manager of the IBM Tucson site and Vice President of Enterprise Storage Development which is part of the IBM Storage Systems Group (SSG). His current responsibilities include product development for Enterprise Storage and Senior State Executive for IBM in Arizona. Rick joined IBM in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1978 with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Alabama. He has held various engineering and management positions focused on product development throughout his IBM career, including a Corporate staff assignment on quality and as Vice President of Development for IBM Printing Systems. Rick has worked for IBM in Lexington, Kentucky; White Plains, New York, Boulder, Colorado, and Tucson, Arizona. Rick is the Chairman of the Tucson City United Way Campaign for 2001. John OHara John T. OHaras hotel management experience spans 26 years and includes Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in Texas, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Florida, Chicago and Hilton Head Island. He was named Manager of the Year twice during his Hyatt assignments. Experienced in resort property renovation, OHara just completed Rio Rico Resorts million dollar room and pool renovation. AAA recently awarded the Resort a Four-Diamond distinction for the fifth consecutive year. OHara is also on the Board of United Way for Santa Cruz County. Christina A. James Pignatelli Jim Pignatelli has been the Chairman, President and CEO of Tucson Electric Power Company since 1998. He started with the company in 1994 and served as Sr. Vice President and Executive Vice President before being promoted to his current position. He has more than 30 years experience in the electric utility industry. Jim is involved in various community organizations, including the Boards of TMC Healthcare, Greater Tucson Economic Council, Southern Arizona Leadership Council, Habitat for Humanity Advisory Board and the AZ Council on Economic Education. He is also a member of the following organizations: Tucson Airport Authority, Tucson 30, Arizona-Mexico Commission and is an MDA National Vice President. Mike Roach Steve Shalit Steve Shalit, General Manager of The Westin La Paloma, is a 25-year hospitality veteran. Mr. Shalit took the reins of the award-winning Westin La Paloma in December 1995. In the past five years, Shalit has successfully led The Westin La Paloma to even higher levels of service and ambiance, while successfully increasing his propertys involvement and presence in the community. Mr. Shalit presently serves on the Boards of the Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Greater Tucson Economic Council and the Arizona Hotel & Motel Association. Gretchen Shine Gretchen Shine is Vice President and General Manager for Cox Communications of Tucson. Ms.Shine was Vice President and General Manager in Roanoke from mid 1993 mid 1998, and has been with Cox for 15 years. She also worked for five years in Atlanta at Cox Corporate Headquarters as Director - Field Marketing, traveling to each of 30 cable systems and assisting in the design of marketing, image and public relations programs. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Ms. Shine contributes her time and talents to organizations including the Arizona Cable Television Association and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Patrick G. Yalung Arizona, oversees 1,058 Wells Fargo team members and the operations of 93 locations in Arizona, including retail sales, Business Banking, marketing and strategic planning. Yalung, who has worked for Wells Fargo since 1983, is a graduate of the University of Arizona and the Pacific Coast Banking School. He is an Eller College Associate of the University of Arizona College of Business and Public Administration and a member of the Arizona Town Hall training committee and the Executive Search Committee of the Greater Tucson Economic Council.
