Plenty of opportunities in the arts, whether it is visual, musical, dance or performing, are available in this east central Arizona region.
Since 1979, the Silver Creek Performing Arts Association has been a significant aspect of the White Mountains art community. In addition to sponsoring a number of special events throughout the year, the association supports both the Silver Creek Little Theatre and the Silver Creek Community Choir, providing quality, family-oriented productions each year.
St. Johns Fine Arts Association presents a wide variety of entertainment not often found in a small town. The association contracts professional performance artists for concerts at the Letty B. Patterson Auditorium every other month throughout the year, providing the best in family entertainment at a reasonable price. For information on the next performance, go to www.stjohnschamber.com and check the “Events Calendar.”
While in the area, make sure not to miss a production from the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra, offering a full range of orchestral music including chamber music, concertos and full orchestral works. It also presents performances fusing orchestral music with local choirs and dance groups. The WMSO plays a role in educational outreach with its annual Music Is… program for elementary students in Navajo and Apache counties. The program was designed to get these elementary students acquainted with orchestral music.
Another important arts and culture organization in the region is the Arts Alliance of the White Mountains, which promotes visual, musical, media and performing arts throughout the White Mountain communities. Art lovers take pleasure in the alliance’s diverse offerings of art shows, poetry readings, films and others.
Many of the communities house exceptional galleries that are stocked with works of local, regional, national and international artists. K5 Gallery and Joyous Lake Gallery round out some of the options for artists and art enthusiasts in the White Mountain area.
