The Chamber started its year off with a home run as it hosted its annual banquet at Holland Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. The theme of the banquet was “Get in the Game.” The night included good fellowship and good food, prepared by Dinner’s Ready. The event culminated with the Chamber presenting the Citizen of the Year award to Benton’s own MLB pitcher Cliff Lee; entertainment was provided by the banquet’s keynote speaker Bill Valentine, the former General Manager of the Arkansas Travelers.

During the month of April, the Chamber held Cajun Feast at First United Methodist Church. Cajun Feast provided members and guests Cajun fare to enjoy at the church or on the go. The event also showcased the second annual Crawfish Eating Contest, which was a big hit once again.
In May, during the Memorial Day weekend, the Chamber was proud to work with Benton’s Advertising and Promotion Commission to bring to the county its first Saline Summer Daze at the property formerly known as Watts field. The weekend included carnival rides, concessions and several entertainment acts, with the headline act being Arkansas’s own American Idol winner Kris Allen.
The event year for the Chamber ended in October with its annual Savor the Flavor event at the newly expanded Benton High School cafeteria. The night was a social event showcasing tasty cuisine from a variety of local restaurants and vendors as well as a silent auction, door prizes and, as always, good fellowship.
In addition to these special events, the Chamber membership regularly met to network and socialize at its First Thursday Luncheon each month at member restaurants in our area. Chamber members also had several chances to meet after work at its Business After Hours. Business After Hours provided attendees a chance to build business and personal relations while enjoying good food and live music at a member restaurant in our area.
As you can see, the 2010 year was a busy year, but it was a year that brought to the members of the Benton Area Chamber of Commerce many benefits in the form of opportunities to fellowship, network and promote each member’s business. I expect 2011 to continue to build upon the efforts of those who have come before us. The Chamber’s staff and board of directors are already working hard to plan for the year and to provide significant benefits the Chamber’s membership has come to expect, but please know, the work cannot be done without your involvement. I encourage each individual who is an employee of a Chamber member or who is a member him or herself to get plugged into what the Chamber is doing. Together, let’s make it our goal to continue to be business-focused and community-minded.
Sincerely,
Jordan Woolbright, President
