Seeing The Sights

ride

Benton and the surrounding areas are brimming with many historical treasures to explore. Dating back from the city’s beginning, these landmarks provide a view into Benton’s past, bringing forth its roots for present day residents and visitors to enjoy.

Bauxite Community Hall, located in Bauxite, Arkansas, was erected in 1926 for the employees of the Aluminum Company of America. Not only does this building serve as a reminder of the people who lived and worked in the area, it celebrates the city and the history contained in its limits. The Bauxite Museum displays artifacts and memorabilia illustrating this past.

Made of bauxite, the Gann Building is the only known structure of its kind. Built in 1893, it served as the office of Dr. Dewell Gann, Sr. until he donated it to the city of Benton to be used as a library. Now home to the Gann Museum, this bauxite rarity contains an assortment of items exhibiting local history.
