

More than 50 places of worship representing many vibrant faith communities have found a home in Benton. A sense of community obligation and cooperation radiates throughout, evidenced in the city’s many service and civic groups. The Churches Joint Council on Human Needs (CJCOHN), formed through the Saline County Ministerial Alliance, consists of approximately 100 volunteers representing about 12 churches. CJCOHN addresses the needs of individuals and families for requests ranging from food, clothing, toiletry articles, rent, utilities, lodging, gas and medical prescriptions to personal support and friendship for families in crisis situations.
Benton Civitan Services is an organization committed to helping the developmentally disabled become active, independent, confident and successful members of the community. Educational and preschool programs prepare students for the public school environment, adult programs teach everyday life skills and goal setting and residential services make apartment and group home living possible. Benton Civitan Services celebrated its 50th anniversary of service to Benton in 2008.
The National Association of Junior Auxiliaries (NAJA) is a nonprofit organization, comprised of women, with the objective to provide programs and resources through community outreach. The Benton chapter of NAJA primarily serves the youth and families of the area through programs like Gathering of Dreams, KidSource and JA on Call. These programs work to provide everyday necessities to families and to provide counseling, educational programs and scholarships.
Other community organizations that play an active and much-needed role in the lives of Benton’s citizens include Habitat for Humanity, CJOHN, Salvation Army and the Community Care Center.
