Tourists find many reasons to flock to Camden, starting with our unique festivals like the BPW Barn Sale and Daffodil Festival. (See the calendar of annual events in the Fun, Culture & Celebration section of this book for details.) Visitors also like to take advantage of the abundant wildlife and fishing opportunities found in this part of the state.

No one should miss visiting the McCollum-Chidester House or the drive-by tour of the more than 20 historic homes and numerous landmarks that grace the community. Another popular attraction is a tour of seven authentically furnished log cabins, owned by Patsy Hale. The Oakland Cemetery (Confederate cemetery) is undergoing restoration and houses many unknown soldiers’ graves from the Civil War.

Camden offers a total of four hotels and a historic bed and breakfast, giving our area a total of 226 rooms available for visiting tourists. Dining opportunities cover a wide spectrum for a variety of tastes. From drive-ins and drive-throughs to bar and grills, seafood and steakhouses, you are sure to find just what your taste buds crave. In addition to some of the best fish and steaks in the state, you’ll find plenty of ethnic dishes like authentic Chinese and Mexican here as well. All are served with friendly service and good conversation.

Camden’s unique shopping opportunities roll out our big-city selections with small-town personal courtesy. Main Street Camden is continuously revitalizing the downtown area and preserving its unique qualities and heritage. Two antique malls, a bakery, bookstore, clothing stores, gift shops, sporting goods, music store, home decorating, and numerous banking options make this area convenient for many shopping needs.

So plan to relax awhile in Camden’s serene, natural setting where its friendly citizens enjoy a down home lifestyle. You’ll see why Camden is THE place to come home to.
