Culture & Events

Camden is blossoming with entertainment venues ranging from annual festivals to parades, movies on the Ouachita River, historic home tours, community concerts, an historic museum, a community theatre and numerous church-sponsored events for people of all races and faiths.

The 70-member South Arkansas Symphony presents many concerts each year in Camden and the surrounding areas. Camden residents also enjoy community concerts, plays and art exhibits on a regular basis.

When it comes to history, the McCollum-Chidester House Museum owned by the Ouachita County Historical Society attracts a healthy share of curious visitors. The Museum of Natural Resources is located in Smackover, only 18 miles away which contains the rich oil and brine history of south Arkansas.

Annual Calendar of Events

• Daffodil Festival: Second weekend in March. The Daniel Estate enables visitors to see approximately two million blooming daffodils while enjoying local entertainment and numerous craft and food vendors. Antebellum Home, garden and cemetery tours are included, as well as a 5K run, steak cookoff, civil war encampment, poker run, bike show and pancake breakfast.

• Juneteenth Celebration: Second weekend in June. Arts and craft vendors, food vendors, sports tournaments, family reunions, parade and concerts are abundant during this event.

• Bearden Gazebo Festival: Father’s Day weekend. Food, concerts, family fun and games begin this festival that ends with a fireworks show.

• Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Barn Sale: Second weekend in June. Arts and craft vendors, food vendors, sports tournaments, family reunions, parade and concerts are abundant during this event.

• Downtown Trick or Treat: October 31. Main Street Camden merchants pass out candy to local children who visit their stores.

• Christmas Open House: Second Sunday in November. Tour local gift shops and floral shops to see the new Christmas ideas and decorations for the season while enjoying refreshments.

• Christmas Parade: First Tuesday night in December.
