A short ride north is Sandy Beach on the Ouachita River that sees plenty of activity during the summer months with its boat ramp, picnic areas and a playground for the youngsters. For those with access to a boat, there are small sandy beaches to spend those hot summer days right on the Ouachita River. White Oak Lake State Park, a short 18-mile drive away, offers campgrounds, swimming areas, fishing, scenic nature trails, picnic areas and a playground.

The Ouachita County Library, which is known for its outstanding genealogical archives, offers summer activities for children. Our children enjoy Boy and Girl Scouts, numerous 4-H activities, martial arts, gymnastics and dance facilities. PeeWee Football is a favorite among children and parents alike. Second through fifth grade boys can participate in the sport and girls of the same age group participate as cheerleaders.
