The residents of El Dorado are avid supporters of the arts and the South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC).
SAAC’s 22,500-square foot facility is home to three art galleries (monthly exhibits feature local, regional and nationally acclaimed artists), a ballet studio, a 206-seat theater, a scene and costume shop, a photography studio and educational classroom space.
El Dorado is also home to the 65-piece South Arkansas Symphony (SAS), the longest operating community orchestra in Arkansas.
The Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources, near Smackover, tells the story of the 1920s oil boom in southern Arkansas and the history of today’s oil and brine industry. Working outdoor exhibits include four oil derricks. The Exhibition Center has a film presentation along with permanent and rotating exhibits.
Art in El Dorado is not confined just to the galleries and museums. Visitors to the city will also enjoy the original murals located at Main Street Plaza and Peach Street at the Anthony Forest office building and also in the Charles H. Murphy, Jr. boardroom at the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. Large-scale bronze statues from the boomtown era are on public display, along with historic friezes on the Warner Brown building.
