The El Dorado community is committed to living a healthful life, with several organizations working diligently to educate residents, young and old, on the importance of health and wellness. The city and its surrounding area are well served by a number of medical resources, including primary care physicians, specialists and community-based health organizations.
The 166-bed Medical Center of South Arkansas (MCSA) anchors El Dorado’s healthcare sector. The fully accredited, general acute care hospital offers patients modern amenities and comfortable accommodations in a compassionate atmosphere. It provides a long list of services and specialties and is staffed by more than 100 primary care and specialty physicians, more than 700 employees and a dedicated group of volunteers.
MCSA remains dedicated to providing the most advanced technology and techniques in the medical industry and regularly invests in updating and improving its equipment and infrastructure. The hospital features a modern Heart and Vascular Institute; an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI; a Women’s Center with one of the only Neonatal Specialty Care Units in the state; a state-of-the-art Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center; and leading-edge diagnostic and laboratory facilities.
The hospital also employs a specialized team of physicians that staff the South Arkansas Center on Aging – Senior Health & Education Center. The clinic strives to enhance the lives of aging adults in the region by offering a host of senior-oriented services, including nutrition services, geriatric care, internal medicine and social work services along with education and wellness programming.
The medical center and what is now Community Health Systems came together in February 1996 to create the SHARE Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, public charity. The mission of the SHARE Foundation is to identify, develop and foster programs and services that further the health and well being of the people in the community and surrounding areas.
The foundation is comprised of several community programs and agencies, including the HealthWorks Fitness Center; Chaplaincy Services & Education at MCSA; PRIDE Youth Programs, which motivates youth and families to live a healthy, drug-free life; Life Touch Hospice; and the Interfaith Clinic.
The Interfaith Clinic supplies primary medical care to the area’s working uninsured population. Among the services provided through the clinic are general office visits for medical and dental purposes, blood pressure checks, glucose checks, pregnancy tests, EKG testing, pharmacy services, prescription medication assistance, health education, information and referral services and the Clothes Closet.
