The city of approximately 20,000 is nestled within the heart of southern Arkansas’ Timberlands region, an area rich in natural resources and featuring some of the state’s finest outdoor recreation sites. El Dorado stands as the county seat of Union County, the largest county in Arkansas, and is proud of its recognition as “Arkansas’ Original Boomtown”—a moniker bestowed upon the city following oil discoveries in the 1920s. The community’s history is still experienced throughout town, with several buildings currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
While strolling through El Dorado, residents and visitors will also encounter the city’s mission to incorporate modern resources. The new addition of the multi-purpose El Dorado Conference Center marks one of the largest municipal undertakings in city history. In addition, the local school district remains at the forefront of education and technology, and the El Dorado Forward initiative continues to generate funds for future economic development.
