Forbes Magazine recently named Fort Smith as the number six city in the nation for cost of doing business based on cost of labor, energy, taxes and office space. The same article ranked Fort Smith and the Greater Fort Smith Region as number six in total income growth, number one for cost of living and number 85 overall of the best cities in America.
Business and industry are also drawn to the area by our strong pro-business climate, nationally recognized schools, outstanding medical facilities, one of the lowest costs of living indexes and a labor force that ranks as one of the best in the nation with regard to productivity and ethical standards.
Business leaders also praise the region’s transportation assets—both highway and waterway, communication facilities, mild year- round climate, high quality of life, multitude of recreational opportunities and, of course, the natural scenic beauty.
The recently created Innovation and Entrepreneurial Center provides support for local entrepreneurs in the region by allowing them to start and grow their businesses while bringing new jobs to the area. The Center, a joint effort between the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce, the City of Fort Smith and the University of Arkansas—Fort Smith, was designed to help develop and grow businesses by creating an environment where entrepreneurs can flourish and have a go-to source of information.
