OZARK ARTS COUNCIL
The Ozark Arts Council was established in 1996 in order to encourage and vitalize the arts in the Harrison area. The OAC is comprised of six member organizations, and additionally operates and manages the historic LYRIC THEATER. Built in 1929 for use as a movie theater, the Lyric Theater now is host to a number of events that span the calendar year, including performing arts productions, musicals, concerts, community events and independent film showings.
Members of the Ozark Arts Council include:
BUFFALO RIVER CONCERT ASSOCIATION Established in 1995, the Buffalo River Concert Association presents between eight and 15 concerts every year, featuring nationally and internationally renowned folk, blues and jazz singer/songwriters.
HARRISON ART LEAGUE The Harrison Art League hosts two art shows annually, along with special showings, educational programming, visiting artist exhibitions and workshops.
NORTHARK DRAMA The Pioneer Players take the stage at Lyric Theater twice a year, offering the cost-free productions every spring and fall. The drama program also utilizes the Lyric Theater for coursework throughout the year.
THE THEATRE COMPANY Quality live theater is presented at Lyric Theater four to eight times a year through The Theatre Company. Guests enjoy everything from musicals and dramas to comedies.
TWENTIETH CENTURY CLUB The Twentieth Century Club sponsors at least one annual art education program, in addition to its annual local art contest, which offers competition in such areas as creative writing, poetry and visual art.
WOMEN’S BOOK CLUB Formed over a century ago, in 1900, the Women’s Book Club sponsors an array of fundraising events designed to support the Boone County Library and works closely with the OAC on a number of project focused on supporting the arts and humanities in the community.
The Bird’s Nest Gallery
Local artists display a variety of art at The Bird’s Nest Gallery, located on the south side of Harrison Square. Peruse through sculptures, photographs, paintings, pottery and much more.
Original artwork lines The Gallery’s large showroom, which includes paintings, limited prints, sculptures, pottery and more. In addition, The Gallery restores paintings and offers a variety of art classes for artists of all skill levels.
