There is a tremendous wealth of recreation and entertainment available in Conway Co. that makes it easy to find something for everyone. Morrilton City Park has a swimming pool, tennis courts, volleyball courts, picnic areas, a playground and open pavilions. The community-owned Conway County Community Center also offers a variety of activities for the whole family. Facilities include an indoor heated pool, racquetball courts, free weight room, aerobics, basketball court, walking track and Polaris machines. There are also many youth-related activities at the center.
One of the city’s major events is the annual Great Arkansas Pig Out Festival held the first weekend in August. With major entertainment attractions, food, arts and crafts vendors and games, the festival attracts thousands every year.
With beautiful Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas’s first state park, visitors and
residents can partake in a variety of festivals and events held at Petit Jean all year long. Take a leisurely hike, or just enjoy the breathtaking scenic vistas from the top of the mountain – the choice is yours. Many companies find Petit Jean a great place for sales retreats and conferences and in addition to the park’s accommodations, the Winthrop Rockefeller Center is also available on Petit Jean Mountain and on the north side of the county, Ozark Conference Center serves as a gorgeous retreat and conference center.
If golf is your game, Morrilton Golf and Country Club offers a private 18-hole course along with a club house, swimming pool and tennis courts.
Fishing and hunting abound in Conway Co. Several accesses to the Arkansas River are within a few miles and there is easy access to Lake Conway, Lake Brewer, Lake Atkins, Overcup Lake and Petit Jean State Park. Morrilton is bordered on the north by the Ozark National Forest and on the south by the Ouachita National Forest, making opportunities for hunting, hiking and camping endless.
For some, shopping is recreation and Morrilton offers some of the best right in the heart of the downtown area. Antique stores abound with the traditional and the unusual and have become a destination for tourists in the area. Nearby Conway offers two major malls with virtually every major retail chain represented and it is only a short drive from there to Little Rock and everything the capital city has to offer.
The Rialto Community Arts Center downtown has been the site of a theater since 1911. Abandoned in the late 1980s, the Rialto was saved from destruction in 1997 and restored by volunteers to its 1952 art deco design. It was reopened in 2000 as a performing arts theater, and has since opened an art gallery next door.
In Little Rock, you can find everything from the Arkansas Symphony to concerts and sporting events at Alltel Arena. Enjoy the recreational opportunities of the great rural lifestyle in Morrilton and Conway Co. with all the amenities of a big city close by.
