There is a rich spiritual community here in Van Buren; about 50 houses of worship are located within the city alone. A variety of religions are represented here, assuring faith-seekers will find a place of worship to suit their needs. These religious institutions remain active in the community, providing outreach services, educational programs and events to accompany their regular worship services.
In addition to resources provided by local churches, the area hosts a number of not-for-profit organizations that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people in Van Buren and beyond. The Alzheimer’s Association’s Western Arkansas Regional Center in Fort Smith works to spread awareness of this disease, promote brain health, advance research for Alzheimer’s and provide care and support to those affected. The Crawford County Volunteers for Literacy is a branch program of the Arkansas Literacy Councils – an organization that dedicates itself to providing various educational programs for adults in the region. Many other groups have been established and continue to implement valuable services and programs for those in need. For a list of Chamber Member organizations visit www.vanburenchamber.org.
