The Leading builder in Lake County, and recipient of Builder Profile's 1995 "Builder of the Year Award of Excellemce" is one that needs no formal introduction. Cambridge Homes, Inc. and president Richard Brown have earned the esteem of the Industry peers and hoime buyers alike through continous commitment to community , quality and customer.

Builder Profile's "Builder of the Year Award of Excellence" is presented each year to one of the 12 home building companies that have appeared on the cover of the magazine the previous year.

The builder selected to receive the award exemplifies a philosophy of dedication to the highest standards of quality construction and craftmanship, innovative design, and customer service and satisfaction.

Cambridge Homes, Inc. personifies all of these qualities-and more. As Richard Brown puts it, "We do more than build homes. We create communities. We call it "The Cambridge Difference."

The imapct of "The Cambridge Difference" is clearly evident in Lake County, where Brown has built more than 8,000 homes-far more than any other builder. In Libertyville, Cambridge has built homes for more than 1,400 families since 1967-25 percent of all the existing homes in that community. In Mundelien, 1,800 families are living in Cambridge-built homes. And in gurnee, Grayslake, round Lake Beach and Warren Township, Cambridge communities currently underway will add 2,000 homes to the area when completed.

HISTORY OF HOMEBUILDING FIRSTS

Long an innovator in the home building induatry, Richard Brown began building homes in the mid-'60s, first in Wheeling, then buffalo Grove, then Libertyville. He was the first builder in Lake county to offer buyers a wide variety of exterior elevations to choose from; the first to introduce varying neighborhoods within a single residentail development; and the first to provide his communities with completed, landscpaed parks and recreational facilities.

Cambridge Homes was also one of the first major builders to develop housing communites in Mundelien. There, at Cambridge West, Brown introduced garden homes, and well-balanced, well-blended community of four completely different neighborhoods.

Homes in Buffalo Grove were selling for an average of $14,500 when Cambridge Homes came in to the comunity. Cambridge Homes started at $29,000. "We wanted to be different, not build what everyone else was," explains Brown. "And the buyers wanted something different-thats what was most important."
