There are four university campuses close by: UCLA is 28 miles, California State University at Northridge 12 miles, California Lutheran College 12 miles in nearby Thousand Oaks, Pepperdine 14 miles, and the new campus of California State Channel Islands, 15 miles.
Virgenes Unified School District
Las Virgenes School District has consistently been a high-achieving school district, with students scoring well above State and National averages on nationally-normed test instruments. High school graduates are accepted into well-known universities, both statewide and nationally. Special education programs are available at all levels.
Fifth grade students are part of a highly successful outdoor education program that focuses on ecology, the balance of nature, and the interrelations of plants and animals.
Each school has an active parent/faculty organization that not only assists in individual projects but is also instrumental in raising thousands of dollars which are channeled back into the educational system.
A.E. Wright Middle School has been recognized as a California Distinguished School. During the past decade, most of the schools in the district have received special state and/or national recognition for their outstanding educational programs.
Oak Park Unified School District
Oak Park Unified School District, with an enrollment of more than 3,100 students, has three K-5 elementary schools, one 6-8 middle school, one 9-12 comprehensive high school and a 9-12 alternative high school. Student achievement at all levels is high, and more than 95 percent of the graduating seniors attend college.
Medea Creek Middle School, Oak Park High School, Oak Hills Elementary and Brookside Elementary have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools. Oak Hills Elementary, Oak Park High School, and Medea Creek Middle School have been recognized by the California Department of Education and the U.D. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools.
Parents are involved in the school's PTA or PFC, as well as in an active School Site Council, where parents participate in important decisions regarding their children's education and the school programs.
