Arcadia is home to a large population of senior citizens due to the many facilities that cater to the older population. Numerous retirement homes, convalescent hospitals, assisted living facilities, doctors and dental offices, physical therapy, various testing laboratories, hospitals, and numerous out patient surgery centers all provide excellent care for the older set. Also prolific in Arcadia and the surrounding areas are senior centers for recreation, social activities and education. There are adult care centers, numerous health clinics, fitness centers and several libraries, most on bus routes or within the area of service provided by Arcadia Transit. Arcadia has two golf courses, Santa Anita Golf Course and Arcadia Par 3.
Other opportunities for seniors include Santa Anita YMCA, many public tennis courts, racquetball, badminton, bowling and lawn bowling. A group meets every week at the Senior Center in Arcadia County Park to do wood carving, and they hold a yearly Wood Carver’s Show every May. More passive opportunities include Tai Chi, walking the paths around Arcadia County Park, walking inside Westfield Mall, and walking or riding inside the Arboretum. For the more adventurous there are hiking trails to the north of the city in the San Gabriel Mountains with numerous trailheads that are open. The National Park Service has an office in Arcadia.
