The Castle Air Museum is a unique site for the whole family to enjoy. The museum represents the history of aviation through a continuously growing collection of vintage aircraft from World War II to today. In addition to the current aircraft collection of 50 aircraft, the indoor museum is teeming with aviation displays and war-time memorabilia. Educational programming and an array of events can be discovered here throughout the year as well.

Atwater is home to the Challenger Learning Center of the San Joaquin Valley, a facility devoted to incorporating mathematics- and science-based learning with the excitement of space flight. Established by family members of those astronauts lost during the Challenger Space Shuttle flight in 1986, the Challenger Learning Center offers Mirror Dome Shows designed to introduce astronomy to visitors within a 12-foot-high, 20-foot in diameter inflatable planetarium; a week-long summer camp for grades first through 12th; organized birthday parties; and corporate training opportunities.

The Bloss House is a prominent historical structure in Atwater because it was as the home of the community’s premier mayor, George S. Bloss Jr. Bloss served as mayor of Atwater from 1922 to 1928, and again from 1942 to 1948. Built in 1914, today the Bloss House is adorned with period items, including a number of the original furnishings. Tours are available from 1 to 4 p.m. on the first and third Sunday of each month.

On top of all these cultural sites are a number of popular annual events located in Atwater, which include the Old Fashioned Independence Day celebration, the Fall Festival and the Christmas Parade in Downtown Atwater.
