Parks & Recreation – Azusa’s ideal location in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains lends itself to unmatched recreational opportunities. More than just a beautiful backdrop, outdoor enthusiasts take advantage of the natural wonder year-round, enjoying hiking, picnicking, camping, fishing and plenty of water sports in the warmer months and skiing and snowboarding in the winter. Angeles National Forest covers more than 650,000 acres in the San Gabriels and is reached within one hour of Azusa.
Residents are well-served by the City of Azusa Recreation and Family Services Department. The municipal organization manages 12 parks totaling more than 60 acres as well as several facilities, including the Azusa Senior Center, the Azusa Woman’s Club, the Azusa Aquatics Center and two recreation centers in Memorial Park. Park visitors are invited to utilize such features as ball and athletic fields, playground equipment, picnic facilities, a Frisbee golf course and more. In addition to maintaining the city’s parks and facilities, the department oversees youth and adult sports leagues, various special events, after-school activities and an assortment of enrichment classes.
