Great food is blessedly abundant in Napa Valley, and Calistoga certainly holds its own as a culinary destination. Leading the accolades is Solbar at Solage Calistoga, whose chef Brandon Sharp was awarded his second consecutive Michelin Star in 2010, and three stars from S.F. Chronicle food critic Michael Bauer. JoLe’s chef-owner, Matt Spector, was named one of Napa and Sonoma’s Rising Stars from in 2009.

Restaurant choices here include just about everything in the spectrum from haute cuisine—with a relaxed Calistoga twist, of course—to authentic Southern barbecue. For a town of its size, it has a surprising variety of options like California/French bistro, Italian, Chinese, family-friendly spots, award-winning burgers, the perfect breakfast place, gourmet delis, good old American comfort food, ice cream, a high-quality bakery and several really excellent coffeehouses. Wine lists are chock full of stupendous locally produced wines, and to keep that variety thing going, there are microbreweries and several nightspots with full bars for cocktail lovers. Summertime patio and sidewalk dining let you drink in the gorgeous view with your meal.
