Attractions

Chico is brimming with family-friendly attractions of all kinds—leaving the question, “What to do first?” Gaze at the stars at the Shoemaker Open Sky Planetarium and Kiwanis Chico Community Observatory, enjoy a glass of wine at Chico’s Bertagna Son Kissed Vineyard or nearby Oroville’s Grey Fox Vineyards, or take in a game of professional baseball at Nettleton Stadium, home of the Chico Outlaws. The possibilities are endless in Chico.

History buffs relish in the museums and historic structures located throughout the Chico community. The 26-room Victorian home at 525 Esplanade was once the home of town founder John Bidwell and his wife. The 1860s Bidwell Mansion is open for scheduled tours Wednesday through Sunday. The current-day Madison Bear Garden is located within a historic 1883 structure and the Stansbury House at 307 W. 5th Street served as the home to local physician Oscar Stansbury and his wife in the 1880s. Home tours are available Saturdays and Sundays.

Open Thursday through Sunday, the Chico Museum is teeming with more than 90 permanent and rotating exhibits depicting the community’s rich heritage, all within the former Carnegie Library in Downtown. The Chico Air Museum at CMA is a must-see for aviation enthusiasts. Open every Saturday, the museum showcases both indoor and outdoor exhibits featuring historic aircraft, photographs and artifacts from famous aviators. Chico is also home to the must-see National Yo-Yo Museum, featuring the largest displayed collection of Yo-Yo memorabilia in the country—including the world’s-largest wooden Yo-Yo at 256 pounds. The museum, located inside Downtown’s Bird In Hand, is open daily and plays host to the annual National Yo-Yo Contest each October.

Family fun is always had at Chico Funland, an amusement park welcoming patrons to play a game of mini-golf, hone their skills at the batting cages, and enjoy a day rollerskating or playing hockey at Cal Skate. The Silver Dollar Fairgrounds bustles year-round with the Memorial Day weekend’s Silver Dollar Fair, the Silver Dollar Speedway and a number of community events.
