Clovis Cultural Events

big hat

The Clovis Chamber of Commerce presents the largest events in the Central Valley that attract more than a quarter million visitors to Old Town Clovis.

Big Hat Days
The first full weekend in April finds one of the West Coast’s favorite events in the Table Mountain Casino Big Hat Days. Twelve blocks of Old Town are filled with 140,000 visitors shopping at over 400 craft booths manned by vendors from across the country. Appetites are satisfied by a wide variety of food and beverages as live bands entertain the crowds. Little ones enjoy the family carnival and bounce houses in the kids’ area while their parents shop the Home and Garden Show. And, oh yes, there are lots of big hats!

The Clovis Beach Club Car Show
Late May finds the Clovis Beach Club Car Show at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds. This invitation only car show will feature some of the best looking hot rods and muscle cars.

festival

ClovisFest
Fall in the Central Valley means back-to-school, autumn leaves, football and the Table Mountain Casino ClovisFest, celebrating the real California. Held during the last full weekend in September, this two-day festival starts out each morning with over 20 hot air balloons taking off to float across the valley sky. When the last balloon has disappeared over the horizon, stroll over to Old Town for free family fun including 300 arts and craft booths, great live entertainment and a variety of food. The fragrant smells of barbeque fill the air from the Red, Hot and Real Cook-off. In its third year, the cook-off attracts grillers from across the country competing for cash prizes.

Holiday Sneak Peek
The Clovis Chamber of Commerce takes its festival expertise indoors during November at the third annual Holiday Sneak Peek. Top-quality crafters and merchants will offer their products for shoppers eager to get a head start on their Christmas lists. Holiday food and decorations will set the tone at this two-day event.

Klovis Kona Luau
In February, come to the Klovis Kona Luau. Feast on authentic Polynesian fare then watch beautiful hulas performed by Polynesian dancers accompanied by percussionists pounding on large drums.

storyteller

The BIG Liars, a Storytellers Competition
Although the Chamber believes that honesty is the best policy, one day out of the year, it throws that policy out the window with the annual BIG Liars Competition held in March. Yarn spinners from the Western United States come to tell the biggest lies and whoppers as the audience decides the winner. This is an amateur competition: no politicians or media allowed.

Hall of Fame Gala
Every June, the Chamber honors those who have contributed to the quality of life in the Valley. At the Hall of Fame Gala, residents are inducted into the Hall of Fame and the Citizen of the Year award is presented. This stroll down memory lane makes the appreciation of Clovis even greater.

Clovis Rodeo
Clovis takes great pride in its annual rodeo held for over 90 years. Sanctioned by the Pro Rodeo Circuit, it is known nationwide. On Thursday, you’ll find the Xtreme Bull Riding and Tie Down Championships that are featured on ESPN. The next days are filled with more rodeo competition in the arena, as well as the Rodeo Parade, concerts and dance.

Farmers’ Market
On Friday nights, local growers descend on Old Town Clovis from May until September to sell their produce at the Clovis Farmers’ Market. Shoppers can buy fresh products from one of the world’s largest agricultural areas. In August, the market features the North American Pole Vault Championships right in the middle of the street.

Children’s Electric Christmas Parade
Kids know that December means a visit from old Saint Nick and the Children’s Electric Christmas Parade. A nighttime event, every float and participant is covered with lights — red, green, big and little. Finishing the mile-long procession is the great one himself, Santa Claus, who delights the viewers with his white beard (it’s real) and big waves.

Many other smaller events entertain Clovis families throughout the year. The Saturday before Easter is the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Bicentennial Park; the Lawn Chair Theater is held in the summer; and the Clovis Community Picnic and the Nicole Young Fire Muster are held in September.

Of course, Friday nights in the fall find sold out high school football games complete with fireworks, cheerleaders and huge bands. Other sports activities fill the time during every weekend of the year.
