Cotati History

statue

Cotati cherishes its small-town charm and takes pride in its Native American history. Named in honor of the peaceful Kotate, a band of Coast Miwoks living in the area, it became part of General Mariano Vallejo’s Cotate Rancho in 1844.

Cotati’s downtown plaza is designated as a California Historical Landmark, being one of only two hexagonal city designs in the United States. La Plaza Park, in the heart of downtown Cotati, is a focal point for festivals, civic events and leisure-time activities. A one-of-a-kind Kids Day Parade, the Annual Jazz Festival and the Accordion Festival help to make Cotati a musical mecca, along with live music in several downtown clubs.
