Desert Hot Springs Water

Water is the heart of Desert Hot Springs. Desert Hot Springs is known internationally for its vast underground aquifers of pure cold water for drinking and for its special soothing hot mineral water available to the many local spas.

Desert Hot Springs is one of several communities served by Mission Springs Water District (MSWD). It is a special district responsible for both water and wastewater and is constantly striving to improve the service to its customers. Staff consists of well-qualified individuals who work tirelessly to bring water to the wonderful citizens of Desert Hot Springs.

Groundwater is the sole source of water for MSWD. Because we are located at the headwaters to the Coachella Valley, MSWD can provide the best quality water possible. MSWD was awarded the gold medal for the Best Tasting Municipal Drinking Water in the world in both 1999 and 2004 by Berkeley Springs, WVA International Water Tasting Competition. The District also won silver or bronze medals in the Competition for 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2008.

Obviously, protection of our groundwater is very important. That is why MSWD supports the Desert Hot Springs Groundwater Guardian team, a subcommittee of the DHS Chamber of Commerce. This team has worked with the community and local schools to encourage and empower local citizens to take voluntary steps toward protecting their groundwater resources.

A testimony to the wonderful water resources in the community is the L.W. Coffee Gallery at the Cabot’s Pueblo Museum. This Gallery depicts the history of water in the Desert Hot Springs areas and the District’s role as steward of this water.
