from the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce
I want to give a warm welcome to both the residents of Eastern Madera
County and the visitors passing through. It has been my good fortune to
both live and work in Eastern Madera County for many years. Twenty years
ago, I represented this area as the 1984 Mountain Belle. Now, I’m
representing this area in a different capacity—as the 2004 Eastern
Madera County Chamber of Commerce president (first six months of the year)
and as the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce president (last six months
of the year). The official name change to Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce
was a result of a vote by our membership and took effect July 1, 2004.
Founded in 1959, the Eastern Madera County Chamber of Commerce consists
of businesses, civic organizations, professionals, and individual members.
We are unique in that we are both a Chamber of Commerce and a community
association open to business and residential members. We recognize that
both components are essential to the welfare of this area.
The Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce is building on communication and
establishing partnerships. We offer networking with other local Chambers
(Bass Lake, Coarsegold, North Fork, and Mariposa Chambers of Commerce)
and the Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau, business information and referrals
from the Chamber, ribbon cuttings, membership mixers and dinners, advertising
in various publications, and more. The Chamber also sponsors two annual
Peddlers Fairs (Memorial Day & Labor Day weekends), the Fall Festival
(first weekend of October), and Party with the Stars (Academy Award®
Oscar® event held at Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino in Coarsegold).

I’m extremely fortunate…I grew up in this area. My grandparents
settled in this area sixty years ago. My roots are here. My family is
here. By working together to make our area a better place to live, work,
and raise our families, I hope my four children will elect to make this
mountain-area their home when they are ready to settle.
As your president, I have the opportunity to give back to the community
that has given so much to me and my family. The best way to thank those
who worked so hard to build this exceptional community is to work even
harder to both preserve and enhance the quality of life we too frequently
take for granted.

It has been ten years
since I moved to Eastern Madera County. Building a home in this beautiful
community was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It wasn’t
long before I not only wanted to live here, but I began to pursue the
American Dream of owning my own business. After much demographic research,
I opened my first business in Oakhurst in 1997.
I looked to the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce for a networking source.
What I found was genuine and sincere support of my business endeavor.
I was elected to the Chamber Board in 2000 and learned very quickly the
importance of community involvement and the effect that my participation
in the community had on the success in my business. I soon realized that
I not only have the privilege of living in one of the most majestic landscapes
in the whole world, but I also have the privilege of living in an area
where the residents are not just clients or customers but are friends
As Chamber president in 2005, it is my goal to re-establish the definition
of the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce with a firm commitment to encourage
and strengthen the economic development by providing our members with
training, education, and resources that will help promote and enhance
their commerce or trade.
I believe as a Chamber we are here to help businesses find customers and
help customers to find businesses, and what a better place to do it than
in the Oakhurst Area.
