Recreation

hiking

El Cerrito encompasses 25 acres of parks equipped with such amenities as playground equipment, ball fields, sports courts, picnic areas and open green spaces. In addition to the maintenance of this parkland, the City’s Recreation Department affords residents a wide selection of excellent programs ranging from sports leagues and camps, art classes and before- and after-school programs to services designed for seniors.

The Ohlone Greenway, also regarded as the “BART path,” traverses the entire length of El Cerrito, offering such diversions as jogging, walking and biking for those wishing to exercise, commute or just enjoy the outdoors. The path’s location places it within a block or two of educational institutions, the public library, City Hall and businesses of all kinds. The Ohlone Greenway runs along a former Santa Fe Railway line, which travels into neighboring Albany and Berkeley to the south and, upon completion, will reach the 400-mile Bay Trail to the north.
