Education

Lifelong learning is an important part of life in Emeryville – a community with ready access to education at all levels.

At a younger age, children enroll in one of several area day care and early childhood education centers – namely the City-operated Emeryville Child Development Center for children aged four months to five years. Starting at the Kindergarten level, residents take advantage of private options, such as the Pacific Rim International School – a multicultural Montessori school providing K-6 instruction in English, Japanese and Mandarin – or public education options at Emery Unified School District (EUSD).

EUSD is composed of two campuses – Anna Yates Elementary School (K-6) and Emery Secondary School (7-12). A rigorous curriculum, supplemented by an assortment of cocurricular activities, is supplied to students within a supportive and encouraging environment. The district is currently working with the City of Emeryville in the planning of an innovative joint-use campus, which will bring together opportunities for learning, recreation, arts and culture and community services. Known as the Emeryville Center of Community Life (ECCL), this project will transform the quality of life for the entirety of Emeryville.

Post high school graduation, many students choose to continue their learning at an institution of higher learning. College-bound students have a choice of several universities, colleges and vocational/technical schools in the East Bay area, including: ex’pression College for Digital Arts, Carrington College California and the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville; Holy Names University and Mills College for women in Oakland; California State University, East Bay’s campuses in Hayward, Oakland, and Concord; and Berkeley-based Berkeley City College, Kala Art Institute and the University of California, Berkeley.
