

Fremont offers 48 community parks, four community centers, sports facilities, an ice rink, acres of preserved open space, and miles of trails. The 434-acre Central Park, with 80-acre Lake Elizabeth at its center, provides tennis courts, sailing, softball and soccer fields, picnic areas, volleyball courts, playgrounds, a skate park, a dog park, and a nature center. A new water park is scheduled to open Memorial Day 2009. A senior citizen center, animal shelter and main library are also located in or adjoining the park.
Within the 976-acre Coyote Hills Regional Park are four Ohlone Indian shell mound sites, a recreated Ohlone village and the 3.5-mile, paved Bayview Trail. Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a 21,000-acre home to seven endangered and threatened species and thousands of shorebirds.
Fremont Park Golf is an executive 2,414-yard, nine-hole course. It also includes a driving range, chipping and putting greens and a clubhouse. For the more adventurous, 2,998-acre Mission Peak Regional Reserve has a 2,517-foot mountain to climb.
Niles Canyon offers scenic beauty, as does Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, along with picnicking, boating, swimming, fishing, hiking and wildlife views. The park’s trail network connects to the Alameda Creek Regional Trail.
Shinn Historical Park has five acres of trees, rare plants and shrubs collected from all over the world, plus an authentically furnished 1876 redwood Victorian ranch house and a cottage built in the 1840s. Sunol-Ohlone Regional Wilderness covers almost 16,600 acres and provides more than 35 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, campsites, and the 29-mile Ohlone Wilderness Trail.
