Education

The Fremont Unified School District serves approximately 32,000 students in kindergarten through grade 12 with a staff of over 3,000 employees committed to lifelong education. Included in the district are 29 elementary schools, five junior high schools, five comprehensive high schools, a continuation high school, the Fremont Adult and Continuing Education facility and the Mission Valley ROP, a technical training and certification school.

Private and parochial schools in Fremont maintain excellent reputations and full enrollment, too, while providing a substitute for public education. A few of the local private and parochial schools include New Horizons School, Christian Community School, Holy Spirit Catholic School and Saint Joseph’s School. The number is growing with each year, allowing students of all grade levels to merge education with faith if they so choose.

Numerous well-known public and private colleges and universities are positioned within a 45-mile radius of Fremont, including the University of California at Berkeley, Stanford University and the campuses of the University of San Francisco. In town, students choose to attend Northwestern Polytechnic University, a campus of DeVry University and Ohlone College.

Part of the Fremont-Newark Community College District, Ohlone College is a public, two-year, open-admission community college that prides itself on incorporating modern technology into its classrooms. Between its two campuses at Fremont and Newark and its online presence, Ohlone College enrolls nearly 17,000 students each year. Offering more than 190 degrees and academic programs makes this community college an inclusive choice for seekers of associate’s degrees and certificates, as well as for those who would like to stay relevant with industry-related vocational training or those who plan to transfer to a four-year college.
