Fresno Healthcare: Quality Care for Everyone

Residents and visitors of Fresno can take comfort in knowing that they have access to numerous medical facilities with exceptional reputations. Quality doctors, surgeons, assistants, nurses and all other support staff work together using the most advanced equipment to bring the best possible services to the patients they serve.

The University Medical Center (UMC) is among the finest facilities in the area. This 274-bed teaching hospital is operated by the Community Medical Centers and is affiliated with the clinical branch of the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.

Community Regional Medical Center is the largest of Community Medical Centers’ three acute-care facilities. As Community’s flagship hospital, Community Regional offers a full-service emergency department, state-of-the-art radiology and cardiology departments, inpatient and outpatient surgeries, dialysis, rehabilitation, pediatric services and cancer treatments. It houses the Valley’s only burn and Level 1 trauma center and was the first in the world for generation four knifeless surgery with CyberKnife. Community Regional is the Valley’s first true academic regional medical center geared to provide the highest level of health care for Valley residents.

Fresno Heart Hospital is another facility operated by Community Medical Centers. Fresno Heart Hospital opened its doors to patients in the fall of 2003 and provides technologically advanced cardiac care for its patients. The hospital is home to four cardiac catheterization labs, three operating rooms, a 16-bed day program, a 12-bed intensive care unit, 48 private rooms, and an outpatient cardiology program and chest pain center.

The Advanced Medical Imaging Center and the California Cancer Center (both affiliated with Community Medical Centers) offer the most advanced treatments and services.

Kaiser Permanente provides comprehensive medical care to more than 116,000 Health Plan members in portions of Madera, Fresno, Kings and Tulare counties. Approximately 230 physicians and 2,300 support staff provide a comprehensive range of services including emergency, urgent, inpatient and outpatient care. The Fresno Medical Center, located at 7300 N. Fresno Street, is a 169-bed hospital and medical office building. Medical office buildings are also located at the First and Shaw Avenues in Fresno, as well as in Clovis, Selma and Oakhurst.

Saint Agnes Medical Center (SAMC) is a 436-bed facility that treats thousands of patients every year. In April 2005, SAMC opened the doors of its new North Wing. Besides providing a new home for the Heart and Vascular Center, improvements include an additional 100 private patient rooms, doubling the size of the ER, and greatly enlarging the chest pain unit, cardiac rehabilitation, imaging, and outpatient facilities. The expansion also included additional cardiovascular surgical suites, cath labs, and interventional radiology rooms.

Numerous other hospitals, clinics, and healthcare centers throughout Fresno and the surrounding area offer general and specialized care on an ongoing or as-needed basis – such as outpatient surgeries, women’s health, cancer centers and children’s care.

The Fresno Surgical Center (created for healthy, elective surgery patients) is a fully licensed facility developed as an alternative to the traditional hospital setting. The facility seamlessly blends the necessary surgical equipment with the amenities of a first-class hotel to create a unique and relaxing atmosphere. The Center’s staff performs more than 6,000 procedures each year, running the gamut from mastectomies and hernia repair to neurosurgery, orthopedic surgeries and plastic surgery.

Women’s healthcare needs are attended to by a host of facilities — including the St. Agnes Medical Center’s Breast Center, the Fresno Breast Center and numerous medical imaging centers throughout the city and county.

Children’s Hospital Central California, started over 50 years ago as the humble vision of five women, has grown into one of the 10 largest children’s hospitals of its type in the nation. Today, Children’s Hospital is a 297-bed pediatric medical center on a 50-acre campus just north of the city of Fresno.

The mission of Children’s Hospital is to provide high quality, comprehensive health care services to the children regardless of their ability to pay. Thanks to the generous donations the Hospital receives, it’s able to fulfill its mission and make sure that children have access to excellent health care.

Regarded as one of the leading eye care centers in the nation, the Vision Care Center’s experienced surgeons and advanced technology have helped thousands of people enjoy better vision.

In addition to the many healthcare centers and clinics, there are hundreds of medical and dental specialists who have offices conveniently located throughout the city.
