Fresno is a shining example of people coming together from different faiths, races, age groups, genders and socio-economic status to make their world a better place to live.
Over 85 ethnic groups reside in the city of Fresno. These groups are served by numerous houses of worship and faith-based organizations working to bring people together. Many of these organizations are considered both non-denominational and cross-cultural — they welcome all people of any size, shape or color.
In fact, this openness of faith and spirit is one of the reasons Fresno was chosen as an All American City by the National Civic League. The National Civic League recognized Fresno’s numerous faith-based initiatives that work diligently to improve the quality of life for people all across the city.
One of the many programs in the area is the One by One Leadership organization which oversees several initiatives in the community including NoName Fellowship, CityBuilders Roundtable, and Pastors Clusters to name a few. The mission of One by One Leadership is “to engage people in urban leadership that results in the economic, educational and spiritual transformation of our community.”
There is little doubt that One by One Leadership is one of the most successful faith-based programs in the area.
Comprised of 12 Christian leaders from the community, the NoName Fellowship meets once a month to discuss local issues and what might be done about them. CityBuilders Roundtable is another group that meets monthly. Comprised of faith based nonprofits, the Roundtable works in collaboration to help one another solve critical issues amongst its members and work toward individual and community health.
The goal of Pastors Clusters is to connect local pastors within a specific geographic area so that they may work together toward a healthier community while creating strong local bonds. Currently there are 11 Pastors Clusters, which represent approximately 153 churches and 55,000 parishioners.
