Immediate Access to an Abundance of Exceptional Medical Facilities

When it comes to healthcare, Fresno residents can take comfort knowing they have immediate access to an abundance of exceptional medical facilities. Highly qualified medical teams and professional support staff members coupled with the most advanced equipment assures patients the best possible services.

Among the finest facilities in the area, the University Medical Center (UMC) is a 274-bed teaching hospital operated by the Community Medical Centers, and is affiliated with the clinical branch of the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.

This facility, which operates a Level I Trauma Center and a highly acclaimed burn unit, is one of only five medical centers in the state to provide both trauma care and burn services. Its services span a wide range of specialties on both an in- and outpatient basis.

Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) remains the largest of Community Medical Centers’ three acute-care facilities, and is adjacent to the trauma and critical care building. As Community’s flagship hospital, CRMC offers a full-service emergency department, state-of-the-art radiology and cardiology departments, inpatient and outpatient surgeries, dialysis, rehabilitation, pediatric services and cancer treatments. It was also the first Central Valley hospital to offer revolutionary, minimally invasive heart surgery as well as breakthrough technology in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Community Medical Centers also operates the Fresno Heart Hospital, which opened to patients in October 2003. This technologically advanced cardiac hospital boasts four cardiac catheterization labs, three operating rooms, a 16-bed day program, a 12-bed intensive care unit, 48 private rooms, and an outpatient cardiology program and chest pain center.

The Advanced Medical Imaging Center and the California Cancer Center are both affiliated with Community Medical Centers, and offer the most advanced treatments and services.

Saint Agnes Medical Center (SAMC) is a 436-bed facility that treats thousands of patients every year. In April 2005, SAMC opened the doors of the new North Wing. Besides providing a new home for the Heart and Vascular Center, improvements include an additional 100 private patient rooms, doubling the size of the ER, and greatly enlarging the chest pain unit, cardiac rehabilitation, imaging, and outpatient facilities. The expansion also included additional cardiovascular surgical suites, cath labs, and interventional radiology rooms. Existing spaces are being remodeled and facilities upgraded in the rest of the Medical Center, benefiting expanding services like orthopedics, neurology and women’s services.

There also are numerous other hospitals, clinics and healthcare centers in the area that offer general and specialized care — such as outpatient surgeries, women’s health, cancer centers and children’s care.

The Fresno Surgery Center (created for healthy, elective surgery patients) is a fully licensed facility developed as an alternative to the traditional hospital setting. The facility seamlessly blends the necessary surgical equipment with the amenities of a first-class hotel to create a unique and relaxing atmosphere. The Center’s staff performs more than 6,000 procedures each year, running the gamut from mastectomies and hernia repair to neurosurgery, orthopedic surgeries and plastic surgery.

Women’s healthcare issues are attended to by a host of facilities — including the St. Agnes Medical Center’s Breast Center, the Fresno Breast Center and numerous medical imaging centers throughout the city and county.

The youngest of patients receive the finest care at Valley Children’s Hospital, Heart Center and Rehabilitation Center — located on a 50-acre campus in the bluffs of the San Joaquin River just north of the City of Fresno. The facility offers every conceivable service, and operates three satellite facilities (including a neonatal intensive care unit at St. Agnes Medical Center).

Regarded as one of the leading eye care centers in the nation, the Vision Care Center’s experienced surgeons and advanced technology have helped thousands of people enjoy better vision.

In addition to the many healthcare centers and clinics, there are hundreds of medical and dental specialists who have offices conveniently located throughout the city. There also are more than a dozen assisted living facilities and retirement communities that provide residents with all the comforts of home, and medical attention for those who need additional care.
